WE’RE HIRING: Energy Stories Lab Research Assistantship

This research assistantship is a general RA-ship, where the student will work with the lab on a variety of research projects – see lab website for complete list of projects. Assistant duties may include, but not be limited to, archival research, interviewing, transcribing of interviews, writing interview summaries, coding and analyzing interviews. All research would be related to Alberta-based studies of energy industries and communities. Some research can be tailored to students personal or professional interests.

Requirements: The candidate for this position does not need to have any specific skills (we provide training if required), but we ask the candidate note any experience they do have with primary and secondary research in their application materials.

Compensation and Other Details: The RA will be supervised by Drs. Sabrina Perić and Jean-René Leblanc at UCalgary.

The RA-ship lasts 2 months, or about 200 hours, compensated at: $20/hr (or about $4000). The hours can be completed between June 1 and August 31, 2026.

Energy Stories Lab

The Energy Stories Lab is collaborative and transdisciplinary, combining ethnography with new forms of art and visualization, including augmented reality (AR), 3D object making, collective mapping and GIS. We highly value collaborative community-based digital storytelling methods, such as PhotoVoice, VideoVoice and also novel approaches to oral and life history.
