WE’RE HIRING: UCalgary-Ingenium Digital Rights Museum Internship

This internship is a month-long internship with Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation in Ottawa, Ontario, and facilitated by the Energy Stories Lab. Founded in 1990, Ingenium is a Crown corporation dedicated to fostering scientific and technological literacy throughout Canada. They maintain and develop Canada’s national collection of scientific and technological objects and library collection. Increasingly, the museum is interested in accessioning digital objects and artefacts too. The intern will work to: 1) identify and research the major challenges that underpin the accession of digital artefacts (e.g. community-partnered accession, digital rights) into national museum collections; 2) produce a detailed summary of current scholarly literature on rights surrounding digital artefacts; 3) author a case study report on the challenges and opportunities of digital artifact preservation for Ingenium.

This is a research-based internship opportunity with a major national museum.

Requirements: The candidate for this position will ideally be an upper-level student who has experience and/or interest in issues around digital museums and heritage, wants to potentially pursue a career in museum or heritage fields, and has experience conducting research using secondary sources.
