Ani Mitsunaga, Undergraduate Associate
Anthropology and Archaeology, UCalgary
Ani Mitsunaga (they/she) is a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Biological Anthropology program in the Anthropology & Archaeology Department at the University of Calgary. In collaboration with the Energy Stories Lab and the Geneva Graduate Institute, they are researching how Alberta’s agricultural sector has either mandatorily or voluntarily incorporated climate change and greenhouse gas mitigation projects, in a province with a defined extractive settler colonial history. This project strives to understand the social and political factors that influence the participation of ranchers and farmers in carbon offset markets and how climate solutions are perceived in Alberta. Ani’s research interests lie in social governance, human-environment based relationships, and cultural-environmental change in the face of energy transitions.
